Extra Virgin Olive Oil in Skincare: Natural Ways to Improve Your Skin's Health and Appearance

Extra virgin olive oil is not just a tasty and nutritious ingredient for your meals – it can also be a natural and effective addition to your skincare routine. Here are some ways in which extra virgin olive oil can improve the health and appearance of your skin:

  1. Moisturizes dry skin: Extra virgin olive oil is a natural emollient, meaning it can help to moisturize and soften dry, rough skin. It is rich in fatty acids and vitamins, which can help to nourish and protect the skin from environmental damage. In fact, preemie babies whose skin was treated with olive oil had better results than preemies treated with other creams.  Here's how to use: pat your skin dry after a bedtime shower (bedtime because you don't want to expose oiled skin to the sun), dab on a small amount of olive oil, massage in, and that's it. Use on hands, arms, and legs, and areas with dry skin, not on acne prone or oily skin areas.

  2. Reduces the appearance of scars and stretch marks: Extra virgin olive oil has been shown to help reduce the appearance of scars and stretch marks by promoting collagen production and improving the elasticity of the skin. To use it for this purpose, apply a small amount of olive oil to the affected area and massage it in gently.

  3. Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles: Extra virgin olive oil is rich in antioxidants and fatty acids, which can help to nourish and plump the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It can also help to improve the skin's elasticity and firmness, giving it a more youthful appearance.

  4. Reduces inflammation: Extra virgin olive oil has anti-inflammatory properties, making it an effective option for reducing redness, swelling, and other forms of inflammation on the skin. It can be used to soothe sunburns, insect bites, and other skin irritations.

By incorporating extra virgin olive oil into your skincare routine, you can enjoy the many natural benefits it has to offer for your skin's health and appearance. Note: don't apply olive oil to your skin if you are planning to be in the sun, and don't use if you are prone to acne. Be sure to choose a high-quality, pure olive oil, and test a small patch of skin before using it all over your face to ensure you are not allergic.

If you need a recommendation for a good brand, we use our own olive oil for our skin and nails because we KNOW it is absolutely pure and we are not cutting corners on our skin:
